Life and Lemon Loaves.

I'm HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME! Did ya miss me? :)
In case you didn't know {ha.} we were in Victoria Falls since Friday. It was
such a blast! I went zip-lining over the Zambizee river {300 feet above water}…
I think I'm going crazy in the head. But it was great!
We were planning on getting home today, but we decided to drive ALL DAY
yesterday and got home last night. 12 hours in a car with nothing to look at and
DEFINITELY no McDonald's or Starbucks to stop at, got ooberly boring. I slept pretty
much the whole day {I'm seriously not kidding.} and had like 3 cans of caffeine pop…
So when we got home I unloaded and put away all my stuff, took a nice hot bath, and
watched whatever was on the Food Network. A good life, I have. :)

Is this dog not the cutest thing in the whole dang world? His name is Tauna. Tauna and I met
at the cute little cottage we were staying at… He reminded me so much of our dog
at home. We were like best friends basically… Even though we "hung out" for about 3 days.
When I went to the kitchen in my jam-jams to get some tea and play games, he'd
come and plop down right next to me. What a gentle giant!

ANYYYYYYways… I made a Lemon Poppyseed Loaf today, but it didn't turn out.
The outside looked perfectly brown and done, and when I inserted a toothpick, it came
out clean. But when I dumped it out EVERYTHING fell apart and all the wonderful
goodness came oozing out. BOO. STUPID STUPID STUPID crapalicious oven! So after
throwing a kitchen fit and shedding a few irritated-out-of-my-mind tears, I jammed it all back
in the pan and popped in the oven again. No it was not pretty, but yes, it was delicious. Oh the life of a baker with a pathetic oven. I'm hoping I'll get around to some good baking this weekend…
Free of oozing loaves and burnt outsides.

Have a great day my lovelies!

  2. Sounds like a fun vacation--that dog is too cute! I, too, have a temperamental oven and I've had the same experience as you. I pulled a "supposedly" done cake out, let it sit, turned it out to cool and batter started dripping everywhere. Oh well...at least it tasted good :)

  4. I love that dog! One year I made a cheesecake for Christmas dinner and it was beautiful, perfect color and not a single crack. After dinner when I started cutting it the inside was RAW. Talk about a kitchen fit... I wanted to let you know that I am passing the Sunshine Award along to you! Here's a link with some more info sunshine Award

  5. Ooh, zip-lining over the Zambizee river! How many people can say they've done that?? ;)

Btw, that happened to me once, too, when I was making banana bread {thought it was done, dumped it out, the inside was totally gooey}...the inside did NOT cook as fast as the outside, and my friend and I were afraid the outside was going to burn to a crisp if we put it back in....BUT my dad told us to put aluminum foil over the top of it to help it bake a bit more evenly. So, that did help, and somewhere along the way while it was baking we cut a bit off both sides of the loaf as well. Solely for the purpose of keeping it from burning, of course, not so that we could hungrily devour it the second it hit the counter...

Anyway, a lovely post, Sophie! Thanks for sharing! :)
